On Wednesday morning 25 December 2013, His Eminence officiated at the Service of the Holy Eucharist at the Cathedral of Saint George, in the presence of the honorary Consul for Cyprus, Mr Demetri Constandinides, Mr Nassos Martalas, president of the Hellenic Community of Cape Town and Mr Andreas Coulbanis, president of the Hellenic Students Association at UCT.
The service which started at 6 am in the morning was very well attended by the local community and visitors to Cape Town. In his address after the service, His Eminence wished everyone good health and that God should give us the strength to cope with the many problems we have to face in our world.
Problems, which are a direct result of society not choosing to follow Christian values and the message from the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Financial crisis based on the amoral ism of the traders and business community, civil wars, conflict among Christians and Muslims, especially in the Middle East and Northern Africa.
The Church prays to God for peace in the world and for the progress of the spiritual life of all the people especially in our own country South Africa.
His Eminence wished for Greece and Cyprus, the mother countries of many of us to solve their financial and political problems. To Mr Nassos Martalas, he wished progress with every good task and project being undertaken by the main committee for the well-being of our fellow Greeks. His Eminence also commended Andreas Coulbanis and his committee for their efforts to bring more youth back to the community and to the Church.
Mr Nassos Martalas read the Christmas message from His Beatitude Theodoros II, Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa in English.
