Feast day Of Saint Kosmas Aitolos – Cathedral of Saint George, Cape Town

On Sunday 23 August an Artoclasia was held after the Service of the Holy Eucharist in honour of Saint Kosmas Aitolos, who is also the patron Saint of the Hellenic School in Cape Town. His Eminence Archbishop Sergios, Metropolitan of Good Hope officiated at the Service of the Artoclasia together with Father Nikolaos Giamouridis and Deacon Michael Simos.

In his address after the Service, His Eminence said he was happy to see that the children from the school were present and emphasised the importance of keeping our heritage, faith and language. He said that Saint Kosmas was well known for his predictions for the future, and some of his prophesies have already come to pass.

He said that one of his prophesies was about the technological age, and also warned against the destruction that this could cause.  His Eminence said that it is good for us to have and use technology. however, we need to be discerning and cautious because it is a dangerous medium which can influence people negatively.
Two children from the school, Lucas Du Toit and Evangelia Boyiatsis read speeches about the life of Saint Kosmas in Greek and in English respectively. After the Service, a celebratory lunch was held at the Hellenic Community Centre.
