On the 10th October 2016, the third day of the Pastoral visit by the Alexandrian Primate to the Holy Metropolis of Mwanza,His Beatitude, accompanied by the local Metropolitan Ieronymos and the Greek Member of Parliament for Drama Mr. Dimitrios Kyriazides Chairman of the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Police Officers, traveled by sea to visit the city of GEITA, the gold mining center, where the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos is situated. As is known, the Holy Metropolis of Mwanza is located around Lake Victoria, the second largest lake in the world, on the border with Uganda and Kenya.
His Beatitude paid a visit to the Governor of the GEITA district, Mr. MSTAAFU EZEKIEL KYUNGA, with whom he discussed at length issues involving the cooperation of the Orthodox Church with this continually developing region and he also mingled with the simple but devout faithful, to whom he gave his Patriarchal blessing. Also to be noted is that it is the first official visit of the Primate of the Alexandrian Church to the Metropolis of Mwanza, since its establishment in 2007.
