By way of conclusion to this short report, it is suitable that We make a short presentation of the history of the Orthodox Church in the Diocese of Burundi and Rwanda, particularly in our country of Rwanda.
The Holy Orthodox Diocese of Burundi and Rwanda was established by Patriarchal and Synodal Decree on 6th October 2009, pastored by His Grace Savvas (CHEIMONETTOS). Its see is in Bujumbura, Capital City of Burundi while the jurisdiction of the Diocese is the countries of Burundi, Rwanda, and a great area of the Eastern Congo. The first contact of the Orthodox Church in Rwanda was in the year 2011, and the very missionary activity has started in early 2012 when the construction of the first Church, Holy Trinity Parish / Nyamata, has started. The current Metropolitan is His Grace Innocentios BYAKATONDA enthroned on 24th February 2013.
As a Religious – Based Organization, the Orthodox Church In Rwanda has applied and received the TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE No 213 / RBO / RGB / 2014 from the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), on 06 /08/2014 to provisionally operate on the territory of Rwanda; and the LEGAL PERSONALITY No 06 / RGB / RBO / 2015, on 11/08/2015 , for permanent operation on all the territory of the country.
On this Sunday, the readings were: Hebrews 9: 1-7 and Luke 10:38-42; 11: 27-28. The gospel talked about Mary and Martha. Martha and Mary are the sisters of Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead. (John 11:1) Martha was distracted (v.40) and troubled about many things (v. 41) in providing hospitality for Jesus. But one thing (v.41) needed was for her to listen to Christ, to hear His words – a priority which certainly does not exclude serving Him. In Luke 11: 27-28, God's blessing does falls not upon those who have prominent family connections, but upon those who hear the word of God and keep it. Jesus is stating a principle, not denigrating His mother: she both heared God's word and kept it, and thus became the most blessed of women. (Luke1: 28-38-42).
May peace of God be with all of you.
